Breastfeeding.  What can I say that’s not already been said??  First off, this isn’t meant to be a comment on formula feeding vs breastfeeding.  This is just one woman’s story.  I know many of us go into motherhood wanting to breastfeed but it’s not a reality for everyone.  No judgement here! I want to start off by saying breastfeeding was a million times harder than I ever dreamed it could be (and I had heard a lot of stories about its difficulty).  I found myself angry that my beat up Read more […]

My life is unpredictable right now.  It’s new and it’s busy and I’m still trying to figure out how to manage my time so that I can still blog while caring for an infant, a dog and still keep the house clean and all of us fed.  The past few days have been even busier as I’ve had my nanny family in town.  The Nanny Mom brought us tons of food and cooked delicious meals for us to eat, while Big C and Littlest C doted on The Wee One and McKenna.  It’s been a great visit but it meant I had no time Read more […]

WOW!  It’s true what they say, time really flies by after you have a child!  That said, the moments when you’re in pain or sleep-deprived seem to drag on forever, but for the most part you feel like your baby is growing too fast and that everything feels like it happened yesterday. I plan on doing a monthly update of The Wee One for the first year of his life and while I feel like there is always so much to say, I’m going to try and keep these as simple and generalized as possible.  Think Read more […]

Watching Someone Give Birth

I’m just going to come out and say it, birth is a beautiful experience, FOR THOSE WATCHING IT.  For those experiencing it, it’s awful and painful, and then finally it’s beautiful after the baby is born.  But for those who get to experience birth as a bystander, I believe it is an entirely different experience.  And I say all this having never seen a live birth myself (only video births) but you don’t have to take my word for it!  I know two ladies who have seen a birth (mine) and they say (despite Read more […]

I wanted to share a bit about how The Scottish is doing as a new father these days.  If I had to describe his parenting in two words I’d use amazing and hilarious. For starters he comes home from work exhausted but still finds energy to play and help with the care of his son.  By the evening I’m beyond ready for a break and he is beyond ready to say hi to the little guy.  I never thought I’d say this, but I now find preparing dinner quite peaceful after a day of caring for a newborn. It will come as no surprise to anyone that we hired a professional to take newborn photos of our beautiful little boy and our new baby family a mere three days after he was born. We hired Annie Wiegers Photography on a recommendation and our photo session was absolutely amazing.  The way it works is you reserve the photographer ahead of time and give them your EDD (estimated due date) but you don’t schedule a day for photos until after baby is born.  The key to newborn shots is have them done Read more […]

If you missed part one or part two catch up with the first two installments below: The Wee One’s Birth Story: Labor Begins The Wee One’s Birth Story: 7 at 7 Where we last left this birth saga, I was finally at 10 cm and ready to start pushing!  Yay!  I will say some of these pictures might be a bit too real for lack of a better word, but I didn’t include any of the more graphic ones, so hopefully I don’t scar anyone. Regarding pushing.  It’s HARD.  Insanely hard.  You have to Read more […]

(If you are just tuning in, start here to read part one of The Wee One’s Birth Story.) Where we last left off, I was assuming I would be having baby boy by the end of the afternoon, before my awesome nurse left for the day.  After all I was dilated to 7 cm and nearing transition which is supposedly the quickest part of labor. It was 2 PM. I was avoiding the clock, laying in bed, and dozing between each painful contraction. The problem was my contractions had started to space out further and Read more […]

Happy Monday friends!  I’m back from maternity leave and I’ve decided to break up baby boy’s birth story into three parts, because who doesn’t love a good trilogy and we all know it would be one looong post if I didn’t.  🙂 Sunday July 20th started off like a normal day, we went to a church we’re courting right now and everyone made comments on how I looked very close to giving birth.  In the back of my mind I was thinking, it’s going to be another week at least!  When we got home The Scottish Read more […]

Helloooooo!!  How are you all doing?  I’m finally back with a post.  Thanks for being patient with me. We’ve definitely been undergoing a big adjustment these past two weeks after the arrival of The Wee One.  Life is so bizarre right now, I feel like I’m a hamster running in a wheel, constantly moving but not going anywhere. What I’m trying to say is, it’s Groundhog day over here people.  I do the same things not just every day but every few hours!  I nurse, change diapers, rock/console Read more […]
