This year I went to both a Good Friday service and a Sunday morning Easter service at my parent’s church.  I’ve mentioned before how we’re in the process of finding a new church but recently we’ve switched gears and have been attending the one I used to go to during high school.  It’s insanely close to our house, the interim Pastor is a really sweet older guy, and my parents are members of the congregation.  All good perks!  I’d still call myself a church commitment-phobe but after getting The Wee One baptized there, attending more regularly, and also directing the drama team, I’ve decided it’s the right spot for us for the time being.

I happen to love Holy week.  I love celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and joyfully singing “Christ the Lord Has Risen Today!”  Holy week is a great opportunity for grounding one’s self with the enormity of knowing Christ died for our sins.  We are all imperfect, and lately it feels like I’m either saying or doing the wrong thing.  Holy week is about God’s ultimate act of forgiveness, and Easter Sunday reminds us we have been given the opportunity to start fresh.  We all need a fresh start sometimes.

This post is supposed to be a photo dump of cute pics, not a mini spiritual moment, but the thoughts were in my head, so I shared them.

Anyway, we started off the holiday weekend with our 2nd annual egg hunt in the backyard for the adults.  I can’t wait until next year when The Wee One and The Cuz Man will be able to join us!

We dyed eggs and The Wee One tried to eat one.  The Mother had us dying all the eggs for the church so there was A LOT to color but it went pretty fast.

The Wee One loved his first Easter basket!  He especially enjoyed pulling the grass out.

The Cuz Man was too young for a basket but he had lots of fun observing everyone and showing off his new smiles.  We even made his fauxhawk more pronounced, isn’t his hair great?!?!

Then we ate ham, and devoured Grandma J’s delicious caramel rolls made by The Mother for the first time!  (I can’t even explain how delicious they are, The Mother did a great job!)  We played cards after the little ones went to bed and had a nice, relaxing evening.

The next morning was Easter service followed by chili and more game playing.  It’s what we do.  This guy sported his Sunday best and looked even more handsome than usual.  Heart.melting.

All in all, an awesome weekend!  Here’s hoping those of you who celebrated had a lovely one as well!

I swear, you and the Scottish made the cutest little boy! He’s such a doll! The Cuz is too cute too! We’ll be finding out the gender of our baby in a few weeks, I have a hunch it’s a boy, and seeing how cute he was in that little bow tie made me a little emotional thinking about having our own little guy to dress up — then again it could be a girl, either way I can’t wait to have first holidays with our little one! Looks like you all had a very nice Easter!

Awww so sweet of you to say! And how exciting for you! Having a son is amazing but it will be so wonderful either way, girl or boy. Holidays with little ones are so magical. 🙂

I love the cheerful energy of Easter hymns, too! AND – little boys in bowties and bunny ears. Delightful!
