Mmm, it smells like autumn a little bit, doesn’t it?  The air is crisper in the morning and pumpkins are popping up everywhere in everything.  Speaking of, am I the only person who doesn’t drink pumpkin spice lattes?  Instead, I spend most of September and October shoveling these delicious candies into my mouth.

I have so many emotions going into September and during back to school time.  I’m not yet sending my little guy off to school so I get to enjoy the desolation of all the parks and the zoo during the school days.  I don’t want the hot days to end but I love all fall season.  I’m relived that our calendar looks emptier but at the same time I’m bummed that our whirlwind of visitors and weddings and trips has come to end.  I’m NEVER happy, AM I??  🙂

I also get sad because most of family goes back to full-time teaching in the fall!  Even though they’re teaching summer school and staying super busy, I’m fortunate that I get to see The Mother, The Sister (plus the The Cuz Man!), and The Glue more often during the summer months, but back to school means back to old schedules and less play dates.

But there are plenty of good things about the cooler months… apple orchards and pumpkin patches are in season, I can start dressing The Wee One in long jeans and Grandpa sweaters, my birthday is in October, and of course, it means the holidays are coming!

We started out our September with two special guests, The Scottish’s Wee Sis and her hubby, The Happy Chappie.  We all had a great time and were able to take them to the MN state fair, a Saint Paul Saints game, the zoo, the Mall of America, and even a failed attempt at apple picking (darn rain!).  We also spent quiet evenings at home just playing with The Wee One, after all, that is one of the main reasons they wanted to come visit!  I know I say this a lot, but The Scottish and I are so incredibly grateful that his family spends the time and money it takes to visit us in Minnesota.  We know we’ll be back in Scotland soon, but with a new baby on the way, soon seems a little farther away now!

Here are a few highlights from their visit:

Beer on a stick
horse barn
State Fair Corn

mowing

Saint Paul Saints Game
leaf

walking practice

roller coaster

zoo

What is YOUR favorite thing about the fall??

PS Thanks all for the love and congrats on baby number two!!  I was so excited to share our news with all of you.

Mmmmm, mellowcreme pumpkins are my favorite, too! Though I cam across peanut butter cup candy corn in Target the other day and it’s pretty doggone awesome 🙂

As for PSL? Not so much. Other pumpkin and pumpkin-spice things, but I’ll hold off on the Starbucks indulgences until the chestnut praline lattes return.
