This cutie turned two on July 22nd and he’s got the attitude to prove it. Hehe.
The Wee One is at such a fun age because he’s talking so much more and we can actually have real conversations. I can understand almost everything he says and he is great at repeating new words although he sounds a bit like Joey from friends when Phoebe is trying to teach him French.
His interpretation of our last name is ridiculous and his version of coffee is wildly inappropriate. You’ll just have to use your imaginations!
My baby is so sweet and sensitive and asks me constantly if I’m OK. And I do mean constantly. When I sneeze or laugh or scream or gasp he shouts out, “Mama, OK?” Another favorite phrase is asking where everyone is, “Dada, are yoooou?” He calls my mom by her first name which cracks us all up. We are trying to get him to say “Grandma,” but it’s a slow process. He loves seeing his family and friends and is always asking about The Cuz Man.
This summer The Wee One has been taking swim lessons, visiting the zoo and MOA a ton, and playing outside. He doesn’t care for splash pads but he really likes his water table. He even went on his first official ride, the carousel at the Como Zoo, and he HATED it! But a few weeks later he got to try the train and big rigs rides at the Mall and those were huge hits!
The Wee One can count to ten with help. He can even sing a decent amount of the ABC song. He is wonderful at independent play and can entertain himself with anything that has wheels. The Wee One loves cars, trains, trucks and more often than not you’ll find one or ten of those things in his hand at any given time. Seriously, we are very into holding ALL THE THINGS right now. Sharing is tough and some days are better than others.
We had a few weeks of the two-year regression right before he turned two where he struggled with naps and bed time and was refusing to sit in his chair for meal times. But now he’s going to bed really well and loves to be tucked in. His naps have lengthened to a little over an hour and I couldn’t be more grateful.
The Wee One sleeps from 7:30 to 6:30/7 and naps somewhere between 1:30 and 3ish.
Favorite foods: yogurt, pizza, pasta, turkey bacon, rice, cucumbers, melons, strawberries, and cereal
Favorite show: Thomas the Tank Engine and Little Einsteins
Favorite toy: train table and his matchbox cars
For his actual birthday I hung streamers from his door so we he could run through them when he woke up and it took him a while to enjoy it but once he did, he had a blast running through and eventually tearing them down.
We went to Choo Choo Bob’s Train Store in St. Paul and out to lunch with The Cuz Man, Auntie, and Grandma. He was in heaven!
His birthday party was smaller this year with just family and the theme was “Under Construction.” We kept the food simple by grilling out and there were cupcakes for dessert.
The Sister made these adorable cupcakes to look like gravel/dirt and stacked them in a dump truck. It was a big hit!
I found a construction shirt that I could personalize on Etsy and it looked adorable on him.
The Wee One cried (again) when we tried to sing happy birthday so the song was cut short. I had intentions of doing a two year old photo shoot but he really dislikes getting his picture taken these days so I’m not gonna push it. However, he LOVES watching videos and looking at photos of himself, go figure.
We’ve enrolled The Wee One in a one day a week pre preschool type program starting this fall so he can socialize more with other kiddos and practice being away from mom. My heart hurts thinking of difficult that first day will be but I know he’ll have a great time and I’m excited from some one-on-one time with my Wee Two.
Speaking of, I can’t do an update post without discussing their brother relationship! The Wee One has seamlessly adopted his role as older brother and enjoys kissing and cuddling his little brother everyday. On weekend mornings, the four of us snuggle lazily in our bed after the boys wake up which is a treat since The Wee One never used to like morning cuddles until his brother came along. He is always trying to help and brings me pacis and burp clothes when I ask and comes with me to get The Wee Two up from his naps. They love giggling together and I know it’s only the beginning of how much fun they’re going to have. One of the best things about being a parent is watching their relationship blossom.
Happy birthday Wee One! You are turning into such a sweet little man! I love reading with you, doing puzzles, and watching for BIG trucks out our kitchen window. You make my days joyful and silly. I will always be here to kiss your ow-ies and answer your questions. Thanks for making me a mama two years ago and flipping my world around in the best possible way. Daddy and I love you sooooooo much!
